The
thirties was a decade in which many really interesting things
happened. They were also difficult times, for instance, the great
crisis in the global economy and the Spanish Civil War. Pluto was
discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh. Pluto was
regarded as the ninth planet of the solar system until 2006.
In
the thirties one of the most popular buildings of the United States
was built. In 1931 its construction was officially finished–
I’m talking about amazing, New York’s
Empire State Building. First mundiat football championship took place
in Uruguay. Team from Uruguay won and earned their title of the first
champions of the football world.
Fashion
in the 30s was a really elegant, for instance women always wore
dresses (often in floral patterns) and high heeled shoes. Men wore
suit, coats, hat and formal shoes. Jazz and swing dominated the music
scene in the 30s, other popular typesin this decade were burlesque
and musicals. Chicago
burlesque legend, Sally Rand, was originally a silent movie actress.
In
the world of music, there were a lot of jazz artists in the charts,
for example, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Oliver. Their
career also started Louis Armstrong or Frank Sinatra. In the cinemas,
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was a big hit. Snow
White was the first and original Disney Princess, in the 1937 first
animated feature film was made in Walt Disney Animation Studio.Simple
things like dolls, finger paint and die cast model cars were very
popular in 30s for kids. Also, very popular were pedal cars and
trucks. Some even had electric headlights!Some
legendary board games came out in the 1930s, like Monopoly, Scrabble.
In the 1932 Ole Kirk Christiansen in Denmark establishedhis Lego
company. Nowadays many kids have these toys in their houses, Cars in
the 1930s were big and elegant, many brands produced them such as
Bentley, Mercedes, Cadillac, Aston Martin and a lot of others.
By
the end of the decade, on the 1st September 1939 Second World War
started.It
was a tragic event especially for the Jews. It was the most memorable
event in 30s.
